Over the weekend, friends of the late James Cocke, the beloved coach of the Bowden Atom Blades hockey team, threw a fundraiser to support his young family.
The James Cocke Family Benefit was held Saturday evening at the Bowden Rodeo Grounds, featuring silent and live auctions, games, and food.
Cocke lost his life after a car accident in Saskatchewan in February of this year, leaving behind his wife and three young children, and a hockey team mourning the loss of their coach.
“In spite of the weather, the event went over very well,” said Shannon Belton, one of the organizers.
“It's an honour to live in a community with so many caring individuals. I feel privileged to be able to call so many that supported this event my friends.”
Belton said on Monday though final numbers weren’t in the event was successful, and she was glad the community could provide an outlet for those that wanted to do something to help support the three children he leaves behind.
“We honour James by trying to support all of his loved ones as they struggle to find their new normal,” said Belton.
