More than 100 families packed the Innisfail Library/Learning Centre on March 8 for the annual Spring Registration Night.
Innisfail clubs, sports organizations and community groups welcomed families from Innisfail and the surrounding area to learn more about spring and summer programs.
“We have such a great turnout. So many families, so many kids and so much to get excited about. It's almost spring,” said Kane Williams, the town's recreation program coordinator. “We have such a great variety. We have everybody from Nuclear Roller Derby to the Court Shuffleboard, the Horseshoe Club, Scouts and all sorts of sports too,” he added. “There's something for everybody.”
A total of 25 groups took part in the Spring Registration Night and provided information on programs, classes, sports and activities for children of all ages.
The Cottonwood Kayak Club in Innisfail was one of several local groups participating and provided information about its mandate and activities.
“We're trying to (encourage) interest in our drop-in sessions at the pool as well as getting kids out so we can build a summer team for the Alberta Summer Games in Leduc this July,” said club official Julie Ramrattan. “In May we kayak outdoors.”
Innisfail Community Garden representatives answered questions and eagerly signed up interested individuals for the upcoming spring and summer seasons.
“We discovered last spring and fall that this registration night works really well for us,” said garden club committee member Marion Davidson. “We're trying to get gardeners to sign up and we've had quite a few tonight. We're also looking for donations and funds for our community garden because we'd like to add some things like a garden shed, a picnic table and garden tools,” she added.
The 2016 Innisfail Program Guide comes out on April 8.
