Close to 150 people showed up to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Autumn Glen Lodge last week. Residents, family, friends, and staff of the lodge all took in the entertainment and speeches honouring 50 years of caring for Innisfail seniors.
“It was a total success, we were really happy with it,” said Karen Marshall, Autumn Glen Lodge manager.
“It was a really big do for this little place.”
The resident’s feedback to the staff carried a similar tone, showing excitement for one of the biggest events that has been held for them at the Lodge.
“They thought it was all great and that it was a fantastic event,” said Marshall, adding that that the entertainment went over really well with them and they felt very engaged.
Richard Popovich from the Popovich Dinner Theatre was the entertainer for the evening and involved a lot of the seniors and visitors in his musical act.
The master of ceremonies for the event was Tracy Walker, Innisfail town councillor and chairman of the Parkland Foundation. She started off the event with a brief history of some of the things people were doing 50 years ago such as listening to The Beatles.
A number of dignitaries gave speeches congratulating the Lodge on their anniversary including Luke Ouellette, MLA for Innisfail-Sylvan Lake, Jim Romane, Innisfail mayor, and Jim Wood, Red Deer County mayor.
The speeches by those associated with the Lodge were done by Karen Marshall, lodge manager, Barb Lewis, assistant manager, and Pam Walz, from the Autumn Glen Lodge Auxiliary.
Following the presentations visitors and residents enjoyed a dinner, refreshments, and anniversary cake.
