INNISFAIL – Conservative Party of Canada (CPC) members will gather in Innisfail Saturday for the founding meeting of the party’s new Ponoka – Didsbury electoral district association.
New federal electoral boundaries came into effect across Canada in April, giving Alberta three more seats in the House of Commons.
The redrawn boundaries resulted in the elimination of the Red Deer – Mountain View riding which included Innisfail.
The town, along with about 19 other communities and parts of other municipalities, is now in the newly created Ponoka – Didsbury riding.
The riding includes all of Lacombe County, Lacombe, Bentley, Bowden, Didsbury, Eckville, Innisfail, Olds, Ponoka, Rimbey, Sylvan Lake, Alix and Clive, as well as the summer villages of Birchcliff, Gull Lake, Half Moon Bay, Jarvis Bay, Norglenwold, Parkland Beach and Sun-breaker Cove, along with parts of Mountain View County, Ponoka County and Red Deer County.
CPC members of the Ponoka - Didsbury electoral district association will gather at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #104 at 7 p.m. on May 4 for the annual general meeting.
Red Deer – Lacombe Member of Parliament Blaine Calkins is expected to give a report and the annual financial statement will be reviewed
Elections for the inaugural board of directors for the new Ponoka – Didsbury electoral district association will also be held.
The next federal election is slated for October of 2025.
