Innisfail RCMP have laid drug and stolen property charges against a Red Deer man following a routine stop on Main Street.

At about 9:30 p.m. on Nov. 30, while on routine patrol, local Mounties conducted a traffic stop on an eastbound Buick LeSabre on 50 Street.

Local RCMP said members began a drug investigation and the vehicle was searched. Police discovered 270 grams of marijuana and eight grams of cocaine in the vehicle, as well as a “significant amount” of cash and drug trafficking paraphernalia, said a RCMP news release. RCMP said the estimated street value of the seized drugs was more than $2,000.

Jordan Redmond, 19, of Red Deer, was charged with five Criminal Code offences, including one count of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, and another for possession of property obtained by crime, as well as two charges of failing to appear to court.

Redmond was held in custody and made his first appearance in Red Deer provincial court on Dec. 2.

Charity Check Stop

The RCMP's 20th annual Charity Check Stop in Innisfail to help the needy at Christmastime is set for this weekend.

The Check Stop, which raises money and food for the local Christmas Bureau and food bank, will run this Saturday (Dec. 12) from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Main Street near the Innisfail Royal Canadian Legion.

Officials with the Christmas Bureau said the organization is in real need of more stuffed toys to hand out to children from the ages of 10 to 18.
