Prices for residential town-owned lots are dropping until June 1 to encourage the sale of 44 lots purchased back in 2010.
Two years ago the town purchased 51 residential lots in the Hazelwood Estates subdivision and to date seven have sold. Of the remaining lots 30 are single-family lots. The other 14 are residential medium density, allowing for duplexes.
Council agreed April 9 to a lot marketing plan including website announcements and advertisements to spread word about the lots and the current sale.
The spring lot sale offers a $5,000 discount for the single-family lots purchased before June 1 directly from the town with no realty commission to be paid on sale prices.
Other incentives include an extension of final payment to six months for lots purchased prior to July 1, a $5,000 commission to realtors for the sale of single family lots with the exception of sales to contractors, no commission for the sale of medium density lots, MLS listings of one lot per agency with a 50/50 split of $5,000 commission, and cancellation of existing MLS listing.
Other proposed marketing ideas include having a booth set up at the farmers' market, hosting an open house and making use of the electric billboard and magazines.
