Council tabled approval of the 2012 FCSS cost share agreement, asking for further information on the requested amount - roughly $6,000 more from 2011.
“I’m not understating where the $6,000 is coming from,” questioned Coun. Heather Klein. “It doesn’t quite give a reason why we’re paying $6,000 more.”
The increase is due in part to the changes in the cost share agreement, explained CAO Rick Binnendyk, who added there’s been an increase in agencies delivering projects, such as an in-school mentoring program that has brought up costs.
In 2011, Penhold paid $20,233 and this year the proposed total sits at $26,311.
Council asked to table it for the next council meeting so they could take time to compare costs from 2011 and look further into the breakdown of allocations.
In total, the Red Deer and District FCSS board will provide $2,964,254 to support preventive social services. This is the first of a three-year funding model, started to replace the previous model that only allowed organizations to apply on a year-to-year basis.
The new model is meant to help FCSS prioritize and plan programs, and allocate resources. Municipal approval is required annually for the cost share summary.
