Road closure planned for May 5
Council approved the road closure on 50 Street from Centennial Park to the Tourism Booth and Lakeshore Drive from the Tourism Booth to Highway 54 for the Ride for Sophia event this Saturday.
The ride is a 50-km fundraiser to raise money for Sophia Jorja Marie Ricci, a three-year-old in need of a double lung and heart transplant who suffers from primary pulmonary hypertension.
The ride will start and end at the park and an estimated 20 cyclists will participate. It will start at 10 a.m. and end near 3 p.m.
Land use bylaw passed
Council approved second and third reading of a land use bylaw allowing child-care facilities and commercial schools as additional discretionary uses in the highway commercial district. A public hearing was held at 7p.m. April 23 and administration confirmed no one from the public was in attendance.
The town's planning and development department has received an application for a proposed daycare and early learning centre in the highway commercial district and staff recommended amending the entire district instead of just a specific site.
First reading given to lot redesignation
Council granted first reading to a proposed land use bylaw that would redesignate two portions of the same lot located between Highway 54 and 61 Avenue.
A portion of the lot that will be redesignated from industrial district to public is located along the tributary of Buffalo Creek running through the east and south portions of the lot. A cut-off portion on the lot will be changed from reserved for future development district, to industrial district and public district.
