New parade rule and route
Candy can no longer be tossed from floats during the annual Innisfail Rotary Parade. A bylaw was changed that no longer allows anything to be tossed from a float before or after the parade. During council meeting May 14 a slightly new route was approved for the parade June 16 to accommodate the construction downtown. The route will start at the corner of 49 Street and 50 Avenue and continue down 50 Avenue until 40 Street where it will turn right onto 39 Street, up 52 Avenue and turn into 42 Street, ending near the Historical Village. The parade begins at 10 a.m.
Liquor permitted at three town facilities
Liquor can now be served at the Innisfail Library/Learning Centre. During council May 14, council revised a policy to include the new centre as one of three town-owned facilities where liquor is permitted. Since the centre has opened, administration has been fielding requests for rentals where liquor is served, a report to council explains. In order to serve liquor a written request must be received by the town one month in advance of the function; town council must agree to it; and the user must enter into a rental agreement with the town and include the special occasion permit, liability insurance in the amount of $2,000,000 naming the town as an additional insured and a refundable damage deposit of $300.
Liquor is also permitted at the arena and ball diamonds.
Lease agreement with town land
Council agreed to lease a portion of a public utility lot to two separate property owners whose land abuts onto their properties.
The land, located near Boulevard Close does not contain any municipal or public utilities; it is a parcel set aside when Madison Park was subdivided. In the future the parcel will be sold off as residential parcels and to allow a road extension for a north extension of 54 Boulevard Close.
The two leases are for one year at $50 to be paid every July 1. The town can access the land if needed and then tenants must maintain the property (weed control and regular lawn mowing).
