Open house in February for proposed substation
A second round of open houses is set to start in February to get the public's feedback on a proposed substation six kilometres east of Innisfail.
Last July, AltaLink held an open house at the legion and gathered feedback from 59 people on the Red Deer Area Transmission Development plan.
Part of the plan includes the construction of three new substations near Ponoka, Innisfail and Didsbury as well as building transmission lines to connect these substations to the electrical system.
The majority of transmission systems in Red Deer and surrounding areas were built 40 to 50 years ago and since that time the population in the towns and cities has grown by 10,000 people, a report from Alta Link explains.
The open house of Feb. 7 will show the public two possible sites for the substation. As part of the project, the existing telecommunications pole at the Innisfail substation will have to be replaced with a 30-metre steel lattice telecommunications tower. The tower is expected to be built in 2012, before construction of the other facilities. The open house will be held Feb. 7, 4 to 8 p.m at the Royal Canadian Legion.
Town launches new website
The Town of Innisfail is expected to launch a new website within the next two weeks. Alanna Lindl, in communications for the Town of Innisfail, presented the design to council Jan. 9. The site is meant to be more user-friendly than the current one and will include photos and information on council members as well as their phone numbers. The main page has no images, something was deliberately chosen so people with mobile devices can the load the page more easily.
"With everyone using an iPhone we didn't want to fill the (website) with pictures," said Helen Dietz, town manager, who explained photos can slow the loading of a page. "People are coming to get the information."
Council approved the design and asked Lindl to launch the site as soon as possible. The website is www.innisfail.ca
Money donated to sport endowment fund
A $3,000 bursary awarded to Envision Innisfail last year was forwarded to the Torch for Sport Endowment fund last week.
Envision Innisfail was created in 2009 to discover ways to make Innisfail a better place to live, work and play. A committee was formed in the spring of that year and over the course of a year, feedback was gathered from the community to create an Envision Innisfail toolkit ó meant to help community groups plan events that reflect the priorities and interests of Innisfail. Last year, Envision Innisfail was a recipient of the Lieutenant Governor's Leadership for Active Communities Award. As the project wrapped up in 2010, the Community Services Board, that started the project, agreed the money should go towards the Sport Endowment Fund.
