Bombing murder case put over
The next appearance for the man accused in the bombing murder of Vicky Shachtay will be Aug. 1.
An agent for Brian Andrew Malley's lawyer appeared in Red Deer provincial court on July 9 to request the case go over a few weeks to allow for review of the disclosure package. Disclosure is the compilation of the Crown's evidence and a copy must be provided to the defence.
Malley is facing charges of first-degree murder, causing an explosion likely to cause serious bodily harm, death or damage to property and sending or delivering to a person an explosive device. He was released on $10,000 bail after an appearance in Edmonton court on June 28.
Plea delayed in abduction case
An Innisfail man facing charges of break and enter with intent, forcible confinement, choking to overcome resistance, assault, assaulting a peace officer, resisting arrest and other offences put over his election and plea when he appeared in court in Airdrie on July 5.
The man, who isn't being named to protect the identity of the victim, was charged after his alleged victim passed a note to a Good Samaritan at CrossIron Mills on March 28. Mall security was contacted and in turn alerted the police, located the victim and suspect and took them to the security office.
The accused allegedly assaulted the woman in front of the police and fought the officers during arrest.
The man is due back in court on July 19 for election and plea. He remains in custody.
Jail time for drug charges
A man was sentenced to serve 42 months in jail for two charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking and a breach of probation.
Scott Stephen Fitzgerald was sentenced in Red Deer provincial court on June 20. A third charge of possession for the purpose of trafficking was withdrawn.
Fitzgerald received four months credit for time already served, leaving him 38 months left to go.
He was accused of throwing drugs in a bag over the fence into the yard of the Bowden Institution on February 19.
