Wilf Edgar has earned himself a spot on Team Canada for next year's World Senior Curling Championships.
Lead Edgar competed in the Canadian Senior Curling Championships in Abbotsford, B.C. March 17 to 25 with skip Rob Armitage and third Keith Glover, both from Red Deer, and second Randy Ponich from Rocky Mountain House.
“It feels all right,” said Edgar about both competing in the national competition for the first time and walking away with a win.
“There was good competition and a little tough. All the provinces had really good players.”
The team beat out Newfoundland in the finals to take the win 5-2. The team played against Newfoundland previously during the round robin, beating them 9-4.
Edgar said they didn't have as much trouble against Newfoundland as they did getting ready to go against Manitoba.
“They won last year but we played our best game to date when we played them,” he said of the 7-5 win.
The team will now head to worlds, representing Canada at a location yet to be determined.
“We didn't see it coming but as we played we just kept winning.”
When asked if the team will be upping their practice time next year in preparation, Edgar laughed before concluding, “We're seniors. We're too old for that.”
The Alberta women's team also won curling championships during finals March 25.
