Great customer service never goes unnoticed.

That's what earned Mette Marie Scarlet, manager at Innisfail's 7-Eleven convenience store, the Customer Service Award at the 2016 Community and Business Awards Gala on Oct. 14.

"It is my first time winning and I am absolutely amazed and astonished that I won," said Scarlet. "I was born and raised in Innisfail, moved away about 30 years ago and moved back with my career with 7-Eleven," she added. "There were amazing people in Innisfail when I was a kid and there's amazing people in Innisfail now."

Scarlet first began as a waitress at the Blue Bird Diner in Innisfail and has spent much of her life dedicated to the industry.

"I was so fortunate to move back here with my career with 7-Eleven," she said, noting she's always there for her customers. "They come through the door, they get a hello and they get my attention," said Scarlet, noting a special place in her heart for Innisfail's older population.

"Seniors in Innisfail are amazing people. I love them dearly."

She said her work is inspired through the people she serves every day.

"It's my customers. Ninety per cent of my day is my customers," said Scarlet. "They're awesome people. We always have the few that are difficult to deal with but you just pick up and do it again."
