INNISFAIL - In just under five weeks the site of the town's new million-dollar skatepark has become  unrecognizable.

And that will certainly suit all future skateboarders and BMX riders just fine.

When construction started crews from Innisfail’s Howell’s Excavating and Calgary-based New Line Skateparks cleared away the soil at the intersection of 42nd Street and 51st Avenue. They then began sculpting the site into a future skateboarding paradise, comparable to any other park of its kind in Central Alberta or even the rest of the province.

Most noteworthy at this state of construction is the outline of the new facility's large bowl is clearly visible, an important feature for all serious skateboarders.

"This skatepark will bring in a lot of kids from other areas," said site manager Blair Aiken, whose six work colleagues at the site proudly call themselves the Quarter Bubs New Line Crew. He noted they have just finished a new skatepark in Fort Saskatchewan, and the Innisfail project is just as large and comparable in quality, but with a different design.

"That's the fun part of it. You want to change it up a bit," said Aiken, a skateboarder himself who promises to test out Innisfail's much anticipated project before handing it off to eager local skateboarders.

"We usually do a bit of quality control," Aiken said with a chuckle. "Just to make sure it will work."

New Line hoped last month the project could be completed by the end of September but with the recent rainy weather the target date is now mid to the end of October.
