The Dickson Store Museum is opening May 21 with an exhibit called “Electricity Comes To Dickson.”

The exhibit, brought forward by Sharon and Kelsey, will depict the impact that electricity brought to rural Alberta through stories, artefacts, photographs, and labelling. This exhibit was partially funded by Alberta Museums Association.

If citizens have any old photographs showing chores being done prior to electricity (washing clothes, milking cows, etc) they can call the museum at 403-728-3355. The museum would like to use them in the exhibit with citizens’ permission.

The Dickson Store Museum will host a community yard sale on May 28 and 29 (Spring Country Drive). If residents have items to donate to this fundraising event they are asked to call the museum at 403-728-3355, or if the museum can rent citizens’ tables or tailgate space to sell their own wares for a fee of $10 per space.

The Annual General Meeting on Feb. 5. The museum had a great turn out of 56 people in attendance. The evening began with a wonderful supper that was enjoyed by all, prepared and served by the Bethany Ladies Church Group.

The following people were elected to the board for the next two years: Doreen Nicholson, Harold Kemtrup, Shauna Mundell, and Tracy Rowbotham. People remaining on the board include: Brenda Kemtrup, Shona Milne, Antonia Nissen, Sandy Shippelt, Ted Richard, Sylvia Fokkens, and Toni Van der Kolk. Thank you to everyone for your dedication and hard work.

In 2010, the projects focused on the operations of the museum. Some of the major projects completed were an Information Manual of the Museum and revised school programs. Museum officials are still in the process of writing policies, a project partially funded by Museums Assistant Program. The new revised school programs have been generating an interest.

Come out on opening day to view the exhibit, meet the staff, and enjoy complimentary goodies and refreshments.
