INNISFAIL – A big disabled train caused alarm in Innisfail late Thursday morning but a rapid response by CPKC quickly fixed the problem.
Ken Kowalchuk, communications and marketing manager for the Town of Innisfail, said the train's locomotive became disabled at about 10:50 a.m. on the morning of April 25 along the CPKC rail line that runs north and south through the town.
He said the problem of local mobility from one side of town to another had an impact on the crossings at 42nd Street, 50th Street, 49th Avenue, 44th Avenue, and 42nd Avenue.
“CPKC is pretty good about taking care of that stuff, and I got notification,” said Kowalchuk. “By the time we posted the information on our Facebook page about it, it was probably about 10 minutes after that that the cars started moving.
“If you factor into the amount of time it takes us to actually put the post up and actually take a few minutes off here and there, it was probably about 20 minutes in total.”
It is not known at this time what caused the train stoppage.
