It may not be the Julliard School of the arts, but it will be a drama workshop for all those who have been on stage and loved it, and for those who've always wanted to experience and experiment with acting for the first time.

It will be all about learning acting techniques in a low-stress, relaxed atmosphere.

Retired drama teacher Norma Hoppins will lead the group for a Friday, Sept. 20 evening from 6:30 to 9 p.m. and all day Saturday, Sept. 21 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The charge of $25 includes lunch on Saturday for this “hands-on” class that is focused for a positive, fun and engaging learning session geared for adult learners.

If anyone wants to try their hand at acting, build confidence, or just share in the excitement of the theatrical process, this is a great opportunity.

For those with some experience who wish to progress, it is an opportunity to further challenge their skills.

The fundamentals of acting will include partnered scene work, scene analysis, character development and playing for the truth. Participants will learn how to get from “pretending” to “being” their characters as the intent is to build excitement from the flat page of script to life.

If anyone has some experience on stage but wishes to progress, then this is also for them. Organizers expect participants to be at many levels and hope to challenge each person.

One of the rules in Hoppins' drama classes was “dare to be dumb”, but that does not mean “be stupid”. Just the opposite is required. The rule means “take a risk” and it implies trying some things that are new to participants. It means: be creative, original or just try something different.

Participants will have fun at the Ol' Moose Hall for an evening and a full day with a group that wants to learn and play.

To sign up, those interested can call Laurie Kooy at 403-227-8704 or Norma Hoppins at 403-227-4144.
