INNISFAIL – Voters in Central Alberta threw their support behind UCP candidate Devin Dreeshen.

His landslide victory in the byelection on July 12 gave him close to 82 per cent of the vote in Innisfail-Sylvan Lake.

Many welcome Dreeshen’s experience, including fellow MLAs Nathan Cooper and Jason Dixon, who both attended Dreeshen’s election night gathering in Red Deer last Thursday evening.

“I think it’s a very important night for the United Conservative Party, as we continue to work hard all across the province to earn the trust of Alberta voters,” said Cooper, MLA for Olds-Didsbury, Three-Hills.

“I think Devin did an amazing job of putting together a great team of people that are really committed to the people of Innisfail-Sylvan Lake and that didn’t take anything for granted,"  he added. “I think that’s an indication of the hundreds of people that came to volunteer in every part of the constituency.

“I think it’s so critical that as we move forward, we work hard, we stay humble and we earn every vote,” said Cooper. “I think that people rewarded that with over 80 per cent of people voting for the United Conservatives and Devin Dreeshen.”

Dreeshen's father, member of Parliament for Red Deer-Mountain View Earl Dreeshen, said he was thrilled to see his son win.

“I know how hard he has worked,” said Earl Dreeshen. “We’re extremely proud of him. I know with his experience and his knowledge that the people will be well represented here in Innisfail-Sylvan Lake.”

He noted how Devin's experience will aid him in his new role.

“He’s spent so many years working with governments and doing different types of things for ministers so he has an expertise, an ability to look at problems and to be able to solve them," said Earl Dreeshen. "I think that’s the critical part: he understands the process.”
