INNISFAIL - Student enrolment in Chinook's Edge School Division schools is down slightly from the previous school year.
Trustees were given an update on enrolment for the 2020-2021 school year during the Oct. 7 board meeting.
As of Sept. 30, enrolment stood at 10,803, down 314 from last year.
“This includes approximately seven per cent of students who chose remote learning, predominantly as a result of COVID-19,” the division said in a press release.
“The board acknowledged the remote learning team of 10 teachers under the guidance of division principal Rod Maclean, who quickly struck an entire K-8 program to facilitate student learning online.”
Grade 9-12 remote learners are being supported through the division’s Career High schools.
“Although they indicated the optimal learning situation for students is face-to-face with teachers and classroom staff in schools, trustees appreciated the impressive efforts to facilitate remote learning to address student needs during the time of COVID-19.”
