PENHOLD – Dozens of Penhold and area families took in the town’s annual Easter Eggstravaganza last weekend.

The springtime event took place on Sunday, March 25 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Penhold Regional Multiplex.

“It’s our annual Easter Eggstravaganza today. We always host it the weekend before Easter,” said Melanie Willerth, events and communications coordinator for the Town of Penhold. “We open it up to families in Penhold and the surrounding communities.

“It’s a great way to enjoy Easter activities and spend some family time together.”

Families from Penhold, Innisfail, Red Deer, Delburne and other surrounding communities came out to enjoy activities, crafts, treats and meet the Easter Bunny himself.

“There’s lots of families here. We’re very pleased with the turnout,” said Willerth. “The kids seem to be having lots of fun and there’s lots of activities for them to do.

“We have bouncy castles, face painting, crafts, and an Easter egg hunt,” she added. “We’ve also got snacks like popcorn and cotton candy and pictures with the Easter Bunny.”

The Uebelhardt family from Penhold was one of many enjoying the Easter Eggstravaganza.

“It’s great that we can stay in the area and enjoy the things that (Penhold) has to offer here,” said Kasey Uebelhardt. “The kids like it and they’re having fun.”

She brought her two young children to the event on Sunday and said she appreciates the family-oriented events put on by the town throughout the year.

“Every holiday they always have something going on. We’ve done the Christmas and Easter (events) and we take advantage of the free skates on Sundays as well,” she added.

Several town staff and town council members, as well as several community groups were on hand to help out with the event, noted Willerth, adding the town enjoys welcoming families to events like the Easter Eggstravaganza.

“We have a couple of councillors here participating in the event, the Optimist Club is making cotton candy for us and Penhold Youth Club is handing out popcorn and helping with crafts.

“People love to come out and we love to have them,” said Willerth. “We love having events for the community.”
