It will be a feast for a good cause.

The Innisfail Growers, with help from sponsors Royal Bank of Canada and RBC Dominion Securities, is holding a Feast In the Field fundraising event on Aug. 19 at the Jungle Farm just north of town.

“Years ago we offered a dinner after our customer appreciation day and our customers all raved about it,” said Shelley Bradshaw of Beck Farms and a member of the Innisfail Growers.

The dinner is a fundraiser for local youth in agriculture.

“The Royal Bank was looking for a way to support agriculture and we were looking for a way to support youth in agriculture and thought this was a great way to help the local 4-H program,” she added.

Bradshaw noted the success they had when they held a dinner one other time.

“It was in conjunction with our (farm) tours,” she said, noting the growth of tours over the past years. “It got so big and it was such a long day that we couldn't fathom putting on a meal at the end of the day. We decided to take that idea and expand it a little, have a stand alone event and a fundraiser.”

Feast In the Field begins at 5 p.m. on Aug. 19 and includes a smoked beef dinner with vegetables provided by Innisfail Growers, as well as wine, entertainment and a special guest speaker.

All proceeds raised will go to local 4-H clubs.

“It's a high end, buffet-style, sit down meal,” said Bradshaw, noting the outdoor venue will be protected from inclement weather by event tents.

“We have hired a local band that will be playing music during the meal and we also have a young 4-H member from Didsbury who will be our speaker,” explained Bradshaw. “He's a young man who's been very involved in the public speaking program through 4-H and has won numerous awards. He will speak on an agricultural topic.”

Following the dinner there will be a farm tour available for those who wish to participate, said Bradshaw, adding they hope to make Feast In the Field an annual event.

“We hope people will come out, learn about our farms and about Innisfail Growers,” said Bradshaw. “They can enjoy a wonderful evening and help support youth in agriculture.”

Tickets are $50 each and can be ordered at local farmers' markets where Innisfail Growers attend or via email at [email protected]
