Fire restrictions enacted in Red Deer County Monday

Acceptable residential fire pits, contained cooking and heating appliances can still be used under the April 28 order

RED DEER COUNTY – Red Deer County officials instituted a restricted fire order Monday for the entire municipality.

According to Red Deer County Fire Chief Drayton Bussiere's order, the restrictions went effect at 2 p.m. April 28.

The order prohibits new outdoor fires in the boundaries of the county but allows all outdoor fires presently burning within Red Deer County whether set with permission or under permit of the county, to remain valid for the duration of the permit.

No new fire permits will be issued.

The ban does not apply to:

• Fires, which are contained within cooking and heating appliances and which are fuelled by fluids, gases, or wood pellets

• Fires contained within industrial facilities for operational purposes.

• Safe, acceptable residential fire pits and enclosed incinerators

• Approved gas/propane fuelled fire pits/stoves/ barbecues

• Catalytic or infrared-style heaters.
