INNISFAIL - The Fourlane Ford dealership has raised a truckload of donations in support of the Innisfail and District Food Bank through the We Scare Hunger campaign, an action-based national initiative to help end local hunger.

“By supporting the Innisfail and District Food Bank, we are aiming to ultimately raise awareness about the issue of food insecurity locally and across Canada,” said Jaime Wilson, business manager for Fourlane Ford. “Food banks serve thousands of Canadians every year, and our team is committed to helping those in need by addressing hunger in our community.”

Wilson said every Ford dealership across Canada participated in the We Scare Hunger campaign. She added Ford, a partner in the initiative, provided all the necessary supplies to support each dealership with its local campaign.

Studies show that homes without access to enough affordable, nutritious food also report multiple chronic medical conditions, major depression and long-term mental and physical disabilities. Furthermore, 54 per cent of Canadian food banks have reported an increase in demand.

For the We Scare Hunger campaign, in demand items for the food bank included personal hygiene products, diapers, canned fruits and vegetables, canned meats and pasta.

From Oct. 1 to 31, Fourlane Ford set up a donation bin for non-perishable donations in the showroom of the dealership at 4412 - 50 St. As well, there was a display in the Quicklane Reception for monetary donations.

Wilson said when the campaign was over there was enough food donations to fill a F-150 truck. She said $300 of cash donations was raised through Fourlane employees. The money was used to purchase additional donations.

"We do a Jeans Day on Friday so sales staff paid $10 a week to wear their jeans on Friday. Normally every quarter we donate all that money, whatever we raised, to charity, but for the month of October all that money was going to the food bank for the We Scare Hunger campaign," said Wilson.

Earlier in October, the dealership partnered with the Innisfail Lions Club to fill up Ford Explorers at the local Co-op and John's NoFrills grocery stores.
