INNISFAIL - Meet Frankenstein. He is bringing his new wife to the town's big show.

The famous horror movie monster and his bride are making their first- ever appearance at the annual Halloween party that is being hosted by the Innisfail and District Historical Village for two nights on Friday, Oct. 21 and Saturday, Oct. 22, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Anna Lenters, president of the board of the Innisfail Historical Society, said the always-popular witches, ghosts, pirates and skeletons will also be making nocturnal appearances. However, Frankenstein and his less than lovely bride could very well be the stars of the show, as they are appearing locally for the first time.

She said the party, which will feature plenty of trick-or-treating opportunities for the kids, will be set up in most of the village structures. To get everything just right, village officials had a “dry run” for the annual party on Oct. 12.

“The dry run was to work out any bugs prior to our guests getting here. In particular, electrical and safety,” said Lenters, adding it took staff and volunteers the full evening to get everything just right. “Lighting is a big issue. What you think is going to work during the light of day might not work at night. You need to be there at night to make sure your lighting is working correctly.

“There is always adjustments to be made because when you go from the light of day you think it's going to be good, and you get to that night and you go, ‘No, that is a dark corner and I have to under-light that feature or change that or this isn't safe, and I have to move these cords,'” she added. “It's really good to have a dry run.”

Lenters said the village had about 100 citizens attend each evening last year and is hoping for an increase this year.

“Weather always impacts us,” she said, urging children to dress warmly. “They are going to have to get from building to building but once they get to that building they will be under a roofline – not necessarily heated but at least out of the elements.

“I just want everybody to come out and have a good time. It's very much a family-orientated event,” she added. “We don't emphasize gore. It is safe and it's fun.”

Admission cost for the Halloween party is $3 per child, $5 for adults and $15 for families.
