The Innisfail Historical Village is putting on a spooky show with this year's edition of the popular ghost walks on Friday nights.
This year's remaining walks will run July 27, August 10, 17 and 24. The shows are aimed at people aged 10 and up for a cost of $5 each.
“A lot of people ask us if there are ghosts here,” said Debbie Becker Matthie, the village manager.
The staff aren't sure if there are any actual ghosts making their home at the village but are happy to try and make attendees get wrapped up in their haunting tale.
“The story's almost a fictitious one,” Becker Matthie said.
Those attending the walks, which run at 9:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m., are taken around the village with stops in each of the buildings to add to the main ghost story or hear other ghoulish yarns.
“It's really scary,” Becker Matthie said. She said last year there was even some adults who were deeply affected by the performance.
“They were just vibrating scared,” Becker Matthie said.
“Kids scream their heads off. They have a good time,” said Krista Connelly, a staff member at the village who helps run the special effects for the ghost walk.
This year's story is one of jealousy and murder. A trainmaster has an affair when his wife gets pregnant, resulting in a tragedy that doesn't stop at the grave.
This is the fourth year for the ghost walks in Innisfail. Becker Matthie said it's a good idea to register before heading out for the evening.
The walks are partially aimed at attracting tweens and teens to the historical village.
“It's trying to get the youth in here,” Becker Matthie said. “There's not a lot for them to do in town.”
The walk is run by three staff members and three volunteers. In addition to music, banging doors and some well-timed screaming, they're hoping to find a smoke machine that can be used for the performances.
