A Grade 12 Innisfail High School student played with the University of Alberta High School Honour Band recently as one of few musicians chosen from across the province.
Piccolo player Taelynn Graham, attended the prestigious University of Alberta High School Honour Band session March 18 and 19.
Students from across the province submitted written applications and 86 students were chosen to attend the event conducted by Dr. Angela Schroeder, the University of Alberta’s director of bands.
Band participants met at the university’s historic Convocation Hall for a full day of rehearsal on Friday, March 18, and again for rehearsal on the Saturday.
A concert was held on Saturday evening with the University of Alberta Symphonic Winds Ensemble opening the musical evening.
The U of A High School Honour Band then played their selections which included Kirkpatrick Fanfare, conducted by Vancouver guest conductor Dr. Robert Taylor, Lament for Brave Wolfe which was written by U of A student Daniel Sobo, and all four movements of Second Suite in F which was written by Gustav Holst.
Graham played both piccolo and flute with this group, and also plays flute, piccolo and bari-sax at high school concert band and jazz band. She also plays the bari-sax with the Red Deer College Big Band.
