INNISFAIL – For the second year in a row the young will swing and rock out live on the hill with the best vibes.
The second annual Hillside Vibes event will be held at Centennial Park on the hill next to the cookhouse on Friday, Aug. 19 from 4 to 8 p.m.
The free event is being held the day before the Innisfail Lantern Festival lights up Centennial Park.
“We're incredibly pleased to bring Hillside Vibes back for this year. The reception last year was incredible. The talent was fantastic. And it's so great to be able to showcase so much local musical talent that we have,” said Kane Williams, the town’s recreation program coordinator. There was no doubt that we wanted to bring it back for a second year.
“And it’s powered by Youth Action Innisfail, which is a great youth organization,” he added. “This is something we're really proud of.”
The event is featuring a wide variety of local and area musical artists. They will play music with styles ranging from techno/house-style music to more traditional rock n’ roll.
What’s the Plan is back this year. This punk rock band is from Crossfield and were part of the inaugural Hillside Vibes show in 2021.
“They actually played at the event last year and they did an awesome job, so we're really, really happy to have them back,” said Williams.
Maxwell’s Demon is also returning for an encore in 2022 with more foot stomping rock.
The event will also have a one-woman musical performer called Jayce on the Cayce.
“It’s electronic, more electronic. And she’s one artist,” said Williams. “She’s from just outside of Innisfail and a big part of the community. She was actually at Innisfail Pride and she helped us out at the skatepark event too.”
And finally, there is Rusty, a one-man band whose appearance is being coordinated by the local Family Resource Network.
Event organizers are also hosting a free barbecue from 4 until 6 p.m. for those in attendance.
Supporting Youth Action Innisfail for the event, is the Town of Innisfail, the Innisfail Public Library, and the Family Resource Network.
