Returning for its eighth year, the Innisfail and District Historical Village is hosting the annual Vintage, Classic and Specialty Auto Show and pancake breakfast on May 26 starting at 8 a.m.
"The show is used as an opener for the Historical Village. It officially opens on the May long weekend but this is the official kickoff," said Lawrence Gould, event coordinator and member of the Historical Society.
Last year the event drew 53 vehicle registrations. Car enthusiasts come from across the province including Calgary, Edmonton and locally as well.
"Different car clubs also participate: from Sylvan Lake, Red Deer, Caroline, Stettler, Calgary, Didsbury and Olds," Gould said.
Traditionally there are five categories: best of show, best classic, best specialty, best over 25 years and best over 50 years.
"This year we have a new category. There had been controversy over "specialty" vehicles; it refers to sports cars, street rods and motorcycles. Some people weren't happy last year. This new category will give other vehicles a class."
"We encourage people to bring tractors and such. This year we'll have a best entry not classified as a car, truck or motorcycle," he added.
Judging is not done by the Historical Society, it is a people's choice contest, therefore allowing car followers mixed with people who may not know as much about cars to vote on what they like. A ballot is provided at the gates to each person who arrives at the show.
The event makes a great morning for car enthusiasts and connoisseurs to come out and enjoy breakfast as well on a Saturday morning, he said.
Gates will open at 8 a.m. and breakfast will run from 8:30 to 11 a.m. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children under 12 and includes breakfast.
