PENHOLD – Residents will have the opportunity to celebrate the Christmas season at a pair of coming holiday events.
First up will be the annual Community Christmas event on Nov. 24 at the Penhold Regional Multiplex.
The Community Christmas event is a partnership between the Penhold and District Library, the Penhold and District Museum, the town and Family and Community Support Services.
“We all work together to make it a really fun family evening,” said Melanie Willerth, events and communications coordinator for the town.
The event includes a tree-lighting ceremony, cookie decorating and a cookie walk, pictures with Santa, face painting, a market, plus a special market for little shoppers to look for Christmas gifts. There will also be sleigh rides, which are weather dependent, a free family skate and more acitivites.
The silent auction is the biggest fundraiser for the library this year, Willerth said. They will also be accepting food bank donations and new toys for the Christmas Bureau.
“It's kind of a Penhold tradition,” Willerth said of the Community Christmas event.
The market will kick off at 5:30 p.m., with the tree lighting at 6 p.m. The other activities will be available from 6:15 to 7:45 p.m.
Brand new this year will be the Breakfast with Santa event on Dec. 2 at the Penhold Memorial Hall. There will be two seatings for breakfast, one at 9 a.m. and a second at 10 a.m.
The town is partnering with the Kinsmen, who are helping ensure Santa is available for the event.
“We're only pre-selling tickets,” Willerth said. The $5 tickets must be purchased ahead of time at the town office.
Santa will visit each table and then will be available for people to take pictures using their own cameras or phones. The breakfast includes pancakes, sausages and eggs.
“We're going to be partnering with a community organization and giving the proceeds back to them, we're just not sure which one yet,” said Willerth.
They decided to bring Santa to Penhold for breakfast after seeing similar events in other communities.
“We wanted to offer an option close to home,” Willerth said, noting she's trying to come up with activities for Penhold's young families to do in town.
