PENHOLD – The town's fall festival drew residents and visitors to a delightful weekend of fireworks, midway rides, a hypnotist and much more.

“It went excellent,” said Melanie Willerth, events and communications co-ordinator for the Town of Penhold.

“So far it seems to be one of our best and biggest fall festivals yet,” she said.

Attendance at the festival, held from Sept. 8 to 10, was higher than previous years, she said, and it was blessed with excellent weather.

“It's grown quite a bit,” she said of the annual event. That growth can be seen in the parade, which featured 50 floats this year, a big increase from last year's 32 entries.

This year featured two new items on the agenda -- hypnotist shows on Friday night, and a kids' concert by Mary Lambert at the library on Saturday.

“They were well received,” Willerth said.

Saturday tends to be the big day, so they are trying to grow the other days by adding new attractions.

The weekend included favourites like the midway rides and games, the Homegrown Market, fireworks, a pancake breakfast, a free family skate and other activities.

There was also a hockey tournament running throughout the weekend.

People attended from all over Central Alberta, she said, and so far the reviews from attendees have been positive. Willerth also highlighted the volunteers and community groups that assisted with putting on the event.
