INNISFAIL – There was no time wasted by the town’s public works staff Wednesday morning as they were out early to blunt the blast of this year’s early spring snow storm.
Ken Kowalchuk, communications and marketing manager for the Town of Innisfail, said he was advised on the morning of March 20 by the town’s public works foreman that staff was at “full capacity” to clear Innisfail’s main arteries, which he added, is the “standard practice” with a snowfall that is currently hitting the town.
The current storm is expected to last until at least Friday and bring up to 25 centimetres of snow.
“Our crews are out working on it, just ensuring major arteries are clear,” said Kowalchuk. “I can say we're handling the situation as we would any other situation like this. It's not something we're not used to dealing with.
“Public work crews continue to work to ensure those routes remain free of snow. They are working at full capacity,” he said, adding crews are also sanding local roads. “And then afterwards is when we work on snow removal within the residential areas.
“We're not there yet. We won't be there until it stops snowing.”
Kowalchuk said the town is encouraging local drivers to adjust their driving habits with the current weather and road conditions.
“Despite our efforts roads may remain difficult to navigate,” said Kowalchuk. “It's always best to use some caution and adjust your driving habits, especially in intersections and areas of high traffic volumes.”
