INNISFAIL – The sale of eight acres of town-owned land in West Gate Industrial Park to Bilton Welding & Manufacturing has been approved by town council.
The industrial land, located south of 37th Street and behind a large Bilton shop, was sold to the town for $830,000.
At council’s June 28 regular meeting, Meghan Jenkins, the town’s director of community services, said the sale of the property, once the site for the town’s wastewater treatment and waste transfer stations, can now go ahead after six years of negotiations.
Council was told the site had to undergo environmental site remediation work, and then subdivision, before the sale could go ahead.
Jenkins told council the purchase agreement was “pretty straightforward”, noting there was a portion of off-site levies that will still be payable by Bilton on the property when a development permit is being processed in accordance with town’s bylaws, as well as the reimbursement of survey costs for the land.
She said the parcel of land will be utilized by Bilton as part of its industrial operations.
Town council unanimously passed the motion to approve the land sale without discussion or comment.
Todd Becker, the town’s chief administration officer, said the $830,000 of new monies will go into the town’s Land Reserves account for future projects.
