Innisfail councillor going to trial in January 2022

INNISFAIL - First-term Innisfail town councillor Donnie Hill will be going to trial in January 2022 on charges of sexual assault, unlawful confinement, assault and criminal harassment, court officials said.

Hill, 29, was charged with the offences in October 2020. The charges have not been proven in court.

A publication ban prohibits reporting on the identity of the complainant or any witnesses.

Hill will go to trial Jan. 17-21, 2022 in Red Deer Court of Queen’s Bench. The trial date was set on Feb. 1.

He will be back in Red Deer court on March 3 for a pre-trial conference.

In a statement provided to The Albertan, Hill calls the charges false. 

He has been released on conditions pending the trial.

Hill was elected to Innisfail town council in 2017 and remains on council.

Sexual assault and unlawful confinement each carry maximum prison term of 10 years.
