INNISFAIL – The Birds of Innisfail are back home this weekend to face their longtime archrival Stony Plain following a pair of losses last weekend.

On Saturday, Dec. 7 at the Innisfail Twin Arena the Eagles lost 5-3 against the Lacombe Generals.

“The guys played hard, Lacombe is always a tough team and to have to go back-to-back and head on the road turned out to be a little too much to overcome,” said Eagles’ coach Kent Wing in a media release. “Although we came up a bit short, I’m confident with a few days to rest up we’ll be ready to give our fans a great show this weekend!.”

The next day on Dec. 8 the Birds hit the road to Bonnyville and built up a 4-0 lead after almost two periods and then found themselves tied 4-4 late in the final period against a determined home team.

The Pontiacs then scored in overtime to win the game 5-4.

The two losses left Innisfail, which has now played 10 games to date in their inaugural season in the nine-team North Central Hockey League, with a record of six wins, three losses and one overtime loss.

That is good enough for fourth place. Lacombe, Wetaskiwin and Stony Plain are all tied for first place with 16 points but Lacombe is on top because it has one game in hand.

In the meantime, the Eagles have announced their recent food bank drive was a huge success with fans donating $310 in cash and 184 lbs. of food in support of the Innisfail and District Food Bank.

The Birds’ upcoming game Saturday, Dec. 14 at the Innisfail Twin Arena against the Stony Plain Eagles has an 8 p.m. start time. Tickets are available at the door.
