INNISFAIL - The Innisfail Eagles took on an old rival over the weekend and won.

The now AA-Birds travelled north to Lacombe Saturday, Oct. 19 to take on the Generals.

Both teams previously played AAA senior men’s hockey and battled it out for the prestigious Allan Cup in 2019. The Generals won the championship on home ice against the Eagles in the final.

But in their first matchup in AA hockey as part of the North Central Senior Hockey League, the Eagles came out on top 8-5.

Most of the action came in the third period. Lacombe led 1-0 after the first period but the Birds evened the score ending the second period in 1-1 tie.

Dave Nippard was named player of the game.

“Nippard was named first star of the game for his performance, as he provided the spark that your Eagles needed to secure the win,” the Eagles said.

The team’s next action is at home on Oct. 26 against the Bonnyville Pontiacs.
