INNISFAIL – A single lane of southbound traffic along Highway 2 was blocked off during the morning following a single-vehicle accident south of the Highway 54 overpass.

RCMP said a car was traveling southbound and lost control, striking the centre median.

Clark Maldaner, assistant deputy chief of the Innisfail Fire Department, said a call came in shortly before 11 a.m. on March 12 for firefighters to head to the scene, located about six kilometers south of town.

When they arrived traffic on the left southbound lane was blocked, with traffic flowing only in the righhand lane. He said members of the RCMP’s Innisfail Integrated Traffic Unit were on scene with the victim.

“There was only one occupant and he was with RCMP when we got on scene,” said Maldaner, adding that while the vehicle was extensively damaged there were no injures to the driver, the car’s lone occupant. “No, EMS was cleared without transport.”

Maldaner said Innisfail firefighters remained on scene for about an hour and returned to the station.

RCMP said in a news release in the early afternoon the collision scene had been cleared, and traffic on Highway 2 had resumed to normal.

The RCMP continues its investigation into the crash.
