Just as the final note of the Last Post was played at the cenotaph under a brilliant blue sky a flock of Canada geese offered hundreds of Innisfailians a unique but timely flyover.
Earlier, the crowd had gathered at the Legion Auditorium for the annual Remembrance Day ceremony. It began with a march and the somber sounds of bagpipes from the Innisfail Legion Pipe Band.
Following a welcome by Legion president Sam Esopenko, Rev. Jeanne Hunter offered readings, including one from the Gospel: John 15:7 – 17.
A tribute song by soloist Karen Kinley followed the readings.
And then came the reading of the Roll of Honour by Esopenko, who named one by one the list of Innisfail heroes from both world wars.
The Lord's Prayer and the hymn Abide With Me followed the readings.
The audience then went outside to the cenotaph where there was the laying of wreathes, including from the towns of Innisfail, Penhold and Bowden. It was followed by the Prayer of Remembrance, the Last Post, Silence of Remembrance, Piper's Lament and God Save the Queen.
