INNISFAIL - The Town of Innisfail and the Innisfail Kinsmen Club are joining forces once again to bring some Family Day fun to the community. .

"It's going to be a big day," said Kane Williams, recreation program coordinator with the Town of Innisfail of the annual Family Day festivities on Feb. 20. "We always make sure we can help (the Kinsmen) out."

The half-day event begins at noon and wraps up at 4 p.m. It includes free skating on an outdoor rink next to the Innisfail Arena from 12 to 3 p.m. followed by free swimming at the Innisfail Aquatic Centre from 2:30 to 4 p.m.

"We're going to be having an outdoor skate and the Kinsmen are going to be hosting a barbecue," he said. "Weather permitting it's all going to be outdoors.

"It was gorgeous last year and we're really hoping for the same thing," added Williams, noting there will also be a firepit with firefighters on hand and a fire truck on site for families to enjoy.

Everything is free but donations are being accepted.

The Kinsmen are raising money for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation during the barbecue, while at the pool, the town will collect food and cash donations for the Innisfail and District Food Bank.

Tim Ainscough, president of the local Kinsmen club, is happy to bring some Family Day fun to the town.

"It's just to give the families something to do on Family Day," said Ainscough. "Our motto is serving the community's greatest needs.

"We're hoping we're going to get good weather and we'll get lots of families out to enjoy a free hotdog, a free hot chocolate or coffee," he added. "We hope it'll be a good event and we'll see lots of people out."

Williams said it's a community-oriented event enjoyed by all.

"It's awesome when we can partner with a community organization like the Kinsmen club and bring in the fire department and get support from local sponsors," said Williams. "It's great to see."
