INNISFAIL – With the help of a concerned citizen, Innisfail RCMP have busted a suspicious local man for possessing what's believed to be crystal methamphetamine.

At about 5:13 p.m. on April 19, Innisfail RCMP received a call from a concerned citizen about a suspicious male who appeared to be looking into parked vehicles in the 34th Street area of Innisfail.

“(The citizen) thought it suspicious and called it in,” said Innisfail RCMP Sgt. Lori Eiler, who added police officers attended the scene immediately. They got lucky and located the suspicious person, actually checking a vehicle.”

Eiler said the suspect fled the scene but was quickly apprehended.

She said a subsequent search of the suspect uncovered more than 12 grams of suspected crystal methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

In the meantime, busts involving crystal meth is an issue Innisfail RCMP has become increasingly familiar with this year. Eiler said the detachment is currently working on “quite a large number of files” involving the use or misuse of crystal meth.

“Definitely in reviewing the files, like I do every day, I am noticing what appears to be an increased volume of files involving crystal meth,” said Eiler.

Bryce James Hamilton, 24, of Red Deer County, has been charged with possession of crystal methamphetamine and resisting arrest. He was released from custody to appear in Red Deer provincial court on Aug. 19.

“Property crime and crime reduction remain a priority for Innisfail RCMP and residents are asked to continue to report any suspicious activity in their neighbourhoods,” said Eiler.
