INNISFAIL - With spring just around the corner Town of Innisfail staff are busy putting together the community's first ever community-wide garage sale.
Ken Kowalchuk, manager of communications and marketing for the Town of Innisfail, said the inaugural Community Garage Sale is scheduled for April 20.
The community-wide event will be held on the same weekend as the town's Kick it to the Curb program for citizens offering used items for free at the edge of their properties next to the curb. The following week the town has its Large Item Pick Up program.
“We're at the point now where we're taking registrations for people who want to register their garage sales,” said Kowalchuk when speaking with the Albertan. “They can go online and actually put some details about the garage sale that they're going to have on that date.
“It's two stages. Right now we're just collecting people to participate. And then at some point we'll make that transition to pushing it out to the larger central Alberta community, letting them know that there will be a number of sales in town on that date.”
As for involvement from the business community, Kowalchuk said businesses can have “any kind of promotion they want,” and the town has discussed the issue to ensure everyone is aware of the one-day event.
“I think we're going to see increased traffic in town on that day. So, it would be beneficial for a business to make sure that the traffic that's coming to town is aware that their business exists.
“Promotion is probably a good way to do that.”
