INNISFAIL – A known repeat criminal offender from the area is facing numerous Criminal Code and drug offences after Innisfail RCMP nabbed him for allegedly breaching court ordered release conditions.
RCMP Cpl. Troy Savinkoff said in a news release issued today that Mounties observed the suspect breaking his conditions on May 28 after police had been monitoring the activities of a known repeat offender living in Innisfail.
Savinkoff said the suspect was followed to Olds where he was arrested by Innisfail RCMP with the assistance of the Olds, Didsbury and Sundre RCMP detachments.
He said a subsequent search of the suspect led to the discovery of several items, including: fentanyl; GHB; cocaine; methamphetamine; drug trafficking paraphernalia; cash; taser conducted energy weapon; and bear spray.
Savinkoff said Mitch Engler, 36, of Innisfail has been charged with:
• three counts of breach of probation;
• possession of a prohibited weapon for a dangerous purpose;
• possession of a prohibited weapon without holding a licence;
• drive while prohibited;
• possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000;
• four counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking;
Savinkoff said Engler has been remanded into custody and his next appearance is scheduled at Didsbury provincial court on May 30.
