INNISFAIL — Police caught up with a pair of suspected thieves who allegedly took copper wire from an area business.
At about 8:40 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 29, the local RCMP detachment responded to a report of a theft in progress at a rural property, police said today (Aug. 31) in a press release.
“Two suspects were observed stealing copper wire,” reads a portion of the statement. “When officers arrived on scene, the suspects were gone.”
However, police were able to pick up the thieves’ trail after gathering evidence at the scene and information from witnesses, and the suspect vehicle was located shortly afterwards at a motel in Innisfail.
Upon obtaining a judicial authorization to inspect the vehicle as well as the motel room where the suspects were attempting to lay low, RCMP officers conducted a search that resulted in the recovery of the copper wire and break-in tools. The two suspects were then arrested.
Jonathan Louis Tattrie, 34, and Kishan Cheri Moore, 25, both of no fixed address, were subsequently each charged with: theft under $5,000; break and enter to a business; possess break-in instruments; and two counts of possession of property obtained by crime.
At the time of his arrest, Tattrie also had warrants out of B.C. as well as outstanding charges in Alberta stemming from similar offences. Following a judicial interim release hearing, Tattrie was remanded to appear in Red Deer provincial court tomorrow (Wednesday, Sept. 1), while Moore was released and ordered to appear in Red Deer provincial court on Tuesday, Sept. 7.
