INNISFAIL – A Winnipeg man is facing a motor vehicle transportation charge following a dangerous rollover on Highway 2 just south of town last night.

Innisfail RCMP Cpl. Donovan Mercer said in a news release that at about 7:16 p.m. on Oct. 27 local Mounties were
dispatched to attend a single tractor trailer rollover on the Queen Elizabeth II Highway (QEII), also known as Highway 2, south of Innisfail.

Mercer said the vehicle was heading southbound on the QEII and flipped on its side, blocking both southbound driving lanes.

“The lone male driver was treated on scene for his injuries and released by responding EMS,” said Mercer.

He said the Innisfail Fire Department and Red Deer County Emergency Fire Rescue Services also attended the scene.

“The southbound lanes of the QEII Highway were temporarily shut down while tow trucks removed the tractor trailer unit from the roadway,” said Mercer.  “Link Contracting from Innisfail attended the scene as well, in order to remove the heavy metal objects which had fallen off the trailer.”

Mercer said Innisfail RCMP charged the 35-year-old male driver from Winnipeg with operating a motor vehicle transporting goods without securing them properly under the provincial Vehicle Equipment Regulations statute.

Anyone have information about the truck crash is requested to contact the Innisfail RCMP at 1-403-227-3342.
