INNISFAIL – Local Mounties are once again gearing up for its 27th annual “season of giving.”

“It's that time of year again. The Christmas season is soon approaching, and the Innisfail RCMP are in the process of setting up this year's Charity Check Stop,” said RCMP Cpl. Troy Savinkoff in a media release. “Due to the generosity of the community, the Charity Check Stop has proven to be increasingly more successful every year.”

In 2022, the Innisfail RCMP Charity Check Stop raised a total of $15,735 in cash and cheques, which was slightly down from the previous year's record-setting $17,181.05.

As well, the RCMP and volunteers collected three truckloads of high-quality toys and new clothing items for the Innisfail Christmas Bureau, along with 542.2 pounds of food for the Innisfail and District Food Bank.

This year’s event will be held on Dec. 2 between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., with RCMP officers, partner agencies, and volunteers setting up by the Innisfail Royal Canadian Legion Branch #104 on 50th Street between 48th and 49th avenues.

“Donations will be accepted from traffic that is both eastbound and westbound,” said Savinkoff.  “Vehicles not wishing to donate may proceed through the right most lanes without stopping.  Safety Bear is also excited to meet everyone again this year.”

He said the Charity Check Stop will once again be accepting new clothing, food, new toys, and cash.

“Every little bit counts,” said Savinkoff.

He said this year’s charitable organizations will be the local food bank and Christmas Bureau, as well as the Central Alberta Child Advocacy Centre and the Innisfail Youth Positive Assets Coalition.

“In this season of giving and celebrating let's provide as much help as we can to those less fortunate,” said Savinkoff. “Help donate and make this Christmas season a great one for everyone."
