INNISFAIL – Local Mounties are holding their first town hall meeting of 2024 on Jan. 22.
Innisfail RCMP, in collaboration with the Town of Innisfail, are welcoming citizens to bring their ideas and concerns to the event that is once again being held at the Innisfail Royal Canadian Legion Branch #104, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
“The main reason why we do this is for the community engagement piece,” said Innisfail RCMP Staff Sgt. Ian Ihme, detachment commander. “We want the public to have that opportunity to hear what we're doing and then give us feedback on either things they don't think have gone right with policing or even just ideas that they have.”
Ihme told the Albertan the event will also be an opportunity to introduce through the town's Policing & Safe Community Committee the annual survey about police priorities that will soon to going out to local citizens.
“It’s talking about safety in the community, things they think police should be doing; just getting that feedback,” said Ihme. “It’s going to be rolling out in the early winter.”
In a media release, Ihme said the town hall will feature presentations from:
• The RCMP on priorities and crime stats;
• Community Peace Officer Program and the Innisfail Fire Department;
• Innisfail and District Victim Services; and
• Policing & Safe Community Committee.
“The Innisfail RCMP is committed to citizen engagement and in forming strong partnerships with the community,” said Ihme.
