INNISFAIL – Local Mounties nabbed two out of three Red Deer Remand Centre escapees still on the lam following an afternoon pursuit in Red Deer County.

Police began searching for four remand prisoners shortly after midnight on June 12 after being alerted to their escape.

About two hours later, police said one of the escaped prisoners was in custody.

Innisfail police said they arrested two of the others — Quinn Russel Peterson, 26, and Douglas Brian Power, 52 — later in the day, leaving one man still on the lam.

“Cooperation between the RCMP and the public and our enforcement partners is instrumental to the success of our crime reduction efforts,” said Innisfail RCMP Staff Sgt. Chris Matechuk in a media release. “The simple act of reporting any suspicious activity and or crime provides us with the necessary information by which we gather intelligence.”

In the afternoon of June 12 Innisfail RCMP responded to a call for assistance from the Blackfalds RCMP about a stolen black Dodge pickup truck with a red tailgate that was last seen travelling out of their area of jurisdiction, said Matechuk.

He said after receiving calls from the public, and with the assistance of an observant Alberta Parks conservation officer west of Innisfail, local detachment members began trying to locate the suspect vehicle.

Matechuk said with the additional assistance of the Innisfail General Investigation Section (GIS) and the Red Deer Police Dog Service, Innisfail RCMP followed the vehicle in and around the Innisfail area.

The vehicle was followed at a distance and was later located parked and left vacant in a field in Red Deer County, east of Innisfail and south of Highway 42 on Rge. Rd. 265.

Within minutes, RCMP at the scene were advised of an ATV that was just stolen from a rural yard near where the truck was left vacant, said Matechuk.

The ATV was located a short distance away in a farm field with two suspects riding it.
Matechuk said while trying to break out of the police containment the ATV ran into a police vehicle that was parked in an approach.

He said the two male suspects then fled on foot. Matechuk said one escapee was ultimately arrested by a Police Dog Service member after being apprehended by a police dog, while the second suspect was nabbed by a GIS member.

He said both males were identified as two of the three remaining recently escaped inmates from the Red Deer Remand Centre.

Both were wanted on outstanding warrants for prison breach and being unlawfully at large.
Matechuk said the investigation continues pending the escapees’ return to the remand centre.

Police are still looking for Dallas Albert Rain, 26, who is still at large.

RCMP wish to advise the public not to approach the escapee but to call 911 or Red Deer City RCMP at 403-343-5575 if you see or have any information regarding the whereabouts of the escapee.
