INNISFAIL – Local Mounties have arrested a man and a woman following the pair’s dangerous driving spree that began in Calgary and ended in Innisfail.
Innisfail RCMP Cpl. Michael Heysa said at about 4:30 p.m. on July 16 local Mounties responded to an alert from the Calgary Police Service (CPS) regarding a stolen truck which was being tracked by GPS and was believed to be in the Innisfail area.
The vehicle, which was reported stolen out of Calgary, had failed to stop for CPS and had driven dangerously throughout the city, said Heysa.
Airdrie RCMP located the vehicle north on Highway 2 and attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the vehicle continued driving dangerously at a high rate of speed north on the freeway, he said.
Heysa said Innisfail RCMP received a notification from OnStar of the vehicle’s location, and it had been deactivated on the outskirts of town.
He said police arrived in the area and located a male and female suspect as they were being picked up by unsuspecting civilians.
Heysa said Innisfail RCMP arrested the male and female and located the stolen vehicle nearby.
He said Red Deer Police Dog Services attended the scene and assisted with gathering evidence to support the charges against the male and female suspects.
As a result of the investigation, Travis Aubichon, a 39-year-old male of no fixed address, and Hanna McGinn, an 18-year-old female from Olds, have been jointly charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, dangerous driving, flight from police and possession of break-in instruments.
They have also been charged with offences under the Traffic Safety Act.
Aubichon is also charged with:
• two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
• possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
• carrying a concealed firearm
• breach of conditions
• three counts of unlawful possession of identity documents
In addition, Aubichon was wanted on five outstanding warrants out of Ponoka.
McGinn is also charged with breach of conditions and possession of a controlled substance.
In addition, McGinn was wanted on 21 outstanding warrants from multiple jurisdictions across Alberta.
Both Aubichon and McGinn were brought before a justice of the peace and were remanded into custody to appear in Red Deer provincial court on July 19.
