INNISFAIL- Northbound and southbound lanes of Highway 2 north of Innisfail closed after a three-vehicle collision Friday afternoon were fully re-opened Saturday morning.

The province's travel advisory service 511 Alberta notified the public around 10:41 a.m. Feb. 8 that both directions of travel had been reopened.

Northbound and southbound lanes near Range Road 362 on the highway that is also referred to as the Queen Elizabeth II Highway or QEII, were closed due to a tanker rollover, a 511 Alberta advisory said at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.

Northbound lanes had re-opened earlier in the morning Saturday, according to a 511 Alberta update at 8 a.m.

RCMP Cpl. Troy Savinkoff said in a media release issued Friday around 4:48 p.m. that Innisfal RCMP was at the scene of the crash, located on Highway 2 near Township Road 362, about halfway between Innisfail and the Penhold exit.

“Although minor injuries are reported, RCMP are advising that southbound traffic is being redirected while emergency workers clear the scene,” said Savinkoff. “One of the involved vehicles is a semi and it will take some time to clear.”

He said an update will be provided when the situation becomes clear.
