INNISFAIL – The RCMP is continuing its investigation into a fatal two-vehicle collision at the south end of town that resulted in the death of an elderly man and left a woman in serious condition.
RCMP Const. Cheri-Lee Smith said in a news release on Oct. 18 that at about 2 p.m. on Oct. 2 Innisfail RCMP responded to a serious motor vehicle collision between an SUV and a truck at the intersection of 42nd Avenue and Highway 54.
Smith said personnel from Emergency Medical Services and STARS air ambulance also attended.
She said a preliminary investigation revealed the SUV was travelling southbound on 42nd Avenue and the truck was travelling westbound on Highway 54. Smith said the SUV is believed to have stopped, entered into the intersection and was then subsequently struck by the truck.
The driver of the truck, a 58-year-old female, was assessed for minor injuries and released on scene, said Smith.
She said the driver of the SUV, a 75-year-old female was transported to a local area hospital with serious injuries. Smith said the 82-year-old male passenger of the SUV was transported via STARS air ambulance to a local area hospital in critical condition.
The man and woman were both from the Blackfalds area, said Smith.
She said on Oct. 14 the 82-year-old male passenger of the SUV died in hospital as a result of injuries sustained from the collision.
Smith said an RCMP collision analyst has assisted with the investigation, which is still underway.
RCMP said further updates will be provided and the name of the deceased will not be released.
