INNISFAIL - A Red Deer County man and a Sylvan Lake woman are facing multiple drug charges, including for possession of fentanyl, following an early morning traffic stop along Highway 2A.
RCMP Cpl. Guillaume Lamoureux said in a Friday news release that at about 3:05 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 27 Innisfail RCMP stopped a red Ford F-150 on Highway 2A, just south of Penhold.
Lamoureux said during the traffic stop “officers developed grounds” to arrest the driver and passenger under the Excise Act for possession of unstamped cigarettes.
The passenger was also found to be wanted on outstanding warrants, said Lamoureux.
He said during the search of the driver RCMP located a taser, which is a prohibited weapon.
Lamoureux said the search of the vehicle also resulted in the seizure of:
• cocaine individually packaged for sale;
• four grams of fentanyl;
• 13 tablets of oxycodone pills;
• small amount of Canadian currency;
• other items related to the sale of cocaine, and
• seven packages of illegal unstamped tobacco.
Michael Stephanson, a 40-year-old male resident of Red Deer County, has been charged with the following offences:
• possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking;
• possession of fentanyl;
• possession of oxycodone;
• possession of a prohibited weapon;
• failing to comply with release conditions, and
• possession of unstamped tobacco contrary to the excise act.
Skylyn Robicheau, a 27-year-old female resident of Sylvan Lake, has been charged with the following offences:
• possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking;
• possession of fentanyl;
• possession of oxycodone, and
• possession of unstamped tobacco contrary to the Excise Act.
Lamoureux said Stephanson and Robicheau were both taken before a justice of the peace and were released with conditions.
He said their next court dates are set for March 27 to appear at the Alberta Court of Justice in Red Deer.
Innisfail RCMP is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the location of, or sightings of criminal activity in citizens’ neighbourhoods, including trafficking of drugs.
